What Mobs WILL We Be Voting For This Year? (Mob Vote 2021 Speculation)

MineCon is less than a week away, and we now know that, alas, the mob vote will still be on twitter. We know that there will be three mobs. We know that people are still salty about last year. But what we still don't know, with just 5 days to go, is the actual mobs we've been voting for.

Mojang released a video on Sunday called "Introducing new mobs", but in classic clickbait fashion, no mobs were revealed. Instead they denied us that information with a big ol' PSYCHE in the form of a distraction that led to the video cutting off right when we were about to get the juicy information.

So with the mobs being revealed fuck knows when, I thought I would speculate on what I think the mobs could be this year.

The Quest to Find Agnes?
So first, that BS trailer that came today which was basically a man firing blanks anorgasmically DID give us a HINT of what mob A could be. LadyAgnes' mini avatar was shown falling underground - presumably down a hole into a cave. This could be our hint that mob A, or all of them, could be cave-dwelling mobs. Seeing as these vote-related videos tell a story and are interconnected (think the Jeb's board games "story arc"), it's very possible this trailer will lead into the ACTUAL mob A reveal. And this will start with Jeb going underground to look for Agnes. Along the way, when he is searching the caves to find her, he comes across a strange cave-dwelling mob that serves as mob A for this vote.

Mobs B and C could also be cave-dwelling, but I think what they could do is a narrative where Jeb is looking for Agnes. Maybe at the end of A's video, Jeb finds Agnes in the caves, but she disappears again. This time to the surface, where mob B dwells. At the end, however, she could decide to climb a mountain, and have Jeb search for her in the mountains/sky, where mob C dwells.

It's a stretch. But I do think mob A will almost certainly be a cave mob. Mobs B and C could be cave, or they could be surface or sky. I like the idea of us voting for a mob that is either cave, surface, or sky-dwelling. I could be completely wrong, but only time will tell. This is just speculation based on the painfully small amount of information in that trailer.

So, this is where the mobs may live. But what actually COULD the mobs be this time around?

Golems?
What is something everyone loves but only two exists and no new oes have been added for nearly 10 years? Golems! If all the mobs this year are golems, this could make for a VERY interesting vote. And if they're all on the same field, as in they're all golems, this could mean people wouldn't be as salty if their favourite one lost. We're getting a golem no matter what wins. Yeah, this would lower the stakes of the vote quite a bit, but looking at the track record of mob votes that is without a doubt NOT a bad thing.

I love the idea of a rocky or underground golem - particularly an Amethyst Golem that fires shards of Amethyst at people as weapons. I've thought how cool this would be in the game since geodes were added. And although I HIGHLY doubt mob A will be an Amethyst Golem, I can only hope.

Golem A could be cave-dwelling, but Golems B or C could be anywhere. The possibilities are endless! In theory, the three golems could represent different elements. Gold golem. Copper golem. Maybe even a Redstone golem. All I know is that I would love to see more Golems in Minecraft!

Ambient Mobs?
Another way the game could lower the stakes of the mob vote is by having all three mobs be rather inconsequential. While I feel this wouldn't go down too well, it would be far less likely to lead to another Dream-a. By ambient mob, I mean a mob that really doesn't serve a purpose other than to make the game feel more alive. Mobs such as butterflies, fireflies, or field birds could add a lot to the game. These passive ambient mobs would be a very safe option. Too safe and inconsequential for most people to appreciate, but I think this could be quite good, actually. Higher-stakes mob votes have caused nothing but trouble in the past. Plus, I'd LOVE to see a mob like a Firefly. It could add so much atmosphere to the game. Especially in a cave.

More Mobs From Other Games?
It could be that they really are trying to replicate last year exactly, by simply giving us a choice of three more mobs from Minecraft's spin-off games, Dungeons and/or Earth. Given how last year's vote went down, and the fact Earth met its demise this year, it could well be that they decide to add another mob from Earth into the main game. There are PLENTY to choose from. There are seriously like 30 mob variants that existed only in Earth. It is possible they might consider another mob from Dungeons, but I think this is less likely.

If we are given a choice between mobs from Earth, I highly doubt the Moobloom will make an appearance again. Mobs such as the Muddy Pig, or the Jolly Llama (Reindeer) could be used instead.

BOSSES?
One thing I have seen YouTubers speculate is that they might have us choose between three BOSS mobs. Bosses, like Golems, have seen no love in almost a decade, and there are only two. While I think this would be really cool on paper, I think this would lead to a LOT of controversy. What vote could be higher-stakes than a BOSS vote? And remember, a higher-stakes vote = more drama and backlash and saltiness from the losing teams. As much as I'd love Minecraft to have another boss, I HIGHLY doubt they will have the boss be down to a community vote. I really hope they don't do this. I REALLY hope they don't. For the sake of the Minecraft devs and all the angry salty losers coming at them because the mob of their choice didn't win.

Final Word
I hope that in a matter of hours, we will know what the actual mob A will be. But until now, I can only speculate. Really these mobs could be anything or everything. Sky mobs, bird mobs, fiery mobs, cave-dwelling mobs, golems... the possibilities are endless. Just... please don't be bosses. Or the muddy pig.
