The 12 Most DANGEROUS Places in Minecraft

If you're trying to escape the dangers of planet Earth in post-2019, Minecraft Survival may not be the place to go. Between exploding plant monsters, surface lava and literal hell itself, the world of Minecraft is far from safe. There is no fast-mutating killer virus that is more catching than a cold, but there are undead bone men who should have an Olympic gold platinum diamond medal in archery.

If it's safety you want, let's explore the places in your Minecraft world you should probably NOT go, especially unprepared.

12 - Outside at Night

This one is a given. The Overworld once the sun falls is certainly not a safe place to be, being absolutely surrounded by hostile mobs of various types. What makes this so much more apparent than others much higher on the list is how early-game this is encountered. You will find yourself outside at night within the first TEN minutes, leaving you very unprepared and vulnerable. However, being outside at night is this low on the list because once you are prepared, the dangers are quickly minimised.

11 - Caves (inc Mineshafts, Dungeons, Strongholds)

All the dangers of the overworld at night, but in the day too. Not to mention it is much darker and with the added danger of getting lost and some lava. Caves may only be number 11 on the list, but remember they spelled the end of Philza's longest-running Hardcore world ever.

10 - Nether Wastes

It's simple - almost every creature is hostile and in abundance, there is lava and fire EVERYWHERE, and the terrain is unpredictabe. This one speaks for itself.

9 - Crimson Forest

Even the name sounds ominous. And I'm pretty sure it's a reference to something. This ultra-red biome in the Nether is highly dangerous - it's easy to get lost, and you're caught in the crossfire between two warring races - the Piglin and the Hoglin. Piglins spawn in abundance in this biome, and while one Piglin isn't too tough to take thanks to their very low health stat, a group of them is definitely NOT something you want to encounter. Not to mention those Hoglins which themselves are fairly heavy hitters. Not being prepared with gold armor or warped fungi can lead to a very swift death here.

8 - Underground Ravines

Back in the Overworld, I put underground ravines in their own category, as they are significantly more dangerous than other types of cave. Especially if you're playing on Java Edition, you will want to avoid these until you have full diamond armour, preferably enchanted. Not only is the floor often made of lava, but you can suffer perhaps the cheapest death in all of Minecraft here. Creepers have a feature that allows them to drop on you from above and explode instantly, and here is the perfect opportunity for them to do so. This attack mode is EXTREMELY lethal, especially on Java Edition where armour is less effective against creeper explosions. A creeper landing on top of you and exploding will be a point-blank explosion, and can instantly kill you from full health and full iron armour, ON NORMAL MODE!

I always forget how dangerous these ravines are. Twice in the last 3 months alone I was caught out. Walking along the ravine looking for ores, BOOM dead. No hiss, nothing. Bring blast protection or else these places are a death trap.

7 - The Central End Island with the Dragon

The place is CRAWLING with Endermen. One wrong look and you could have a swarm of them! The dragon itself is also something to watch for, as it regularly fires very lethal end acid at the player. There is also the remote chance of falling off the main island, which can happen if the Dragon clips you with its wings and sends you flying. As I will discuss later, that could be catastrophic.

6 - Soul Sand Valley

Back into the Nether, if it's "not dying" you want, the Soul Sand Valley does not have you covered. The biome couples plentiful hostile mobs that have ranged attacks, with soul sand terrain that literally physically slows you down. As well as being one of the scariest places in the game with its fossils, trapped souls and eerie cyan fog, you will get constantly pummelled by ghasts and skeletons as you try to spam-jump your way through! And as an added bonus, the ghasts set the biome ablaze with Soul Fire, which damages you twice as fast as regular fire!

5 - Inside a Nether Fortress

Whether it's blazes winging fireballs at you from 100 blocks away with absolutely pin-point accuracy, or the curse of the Wither Skeletons that literally inflict you with the flesh-eating Wither effect, the Nether Fortress is only a place to enter if you're highly prepared. Not only do you have loads of mobs to contend with, these fortresses are often at dizzying heights or over lava, so falling from their narrow ledges is almost always fatal and surprisingly easy to do.

4 - Basalt Deltas

This is what I consider the most dangerous biome in Minecraft. It's basically the Soul Sand Valley but cranked up to 11. Heck, cranked up to 13. Take everything with the previous Nether biomes and smash them all together. The unpredictable terrain of the Wastes, the high mob abundance of the Crimson Forest and the terrain slowing you down like in the Soul Sand Valley all combine to make this biome a true hellhole to survive in. And its own added danger of essentially having to parkour over all the jagged pillars, with random holes full of lava EVERYWHERE. AND you have magma cubes everywhere to push you into those holes! They can also jump from above, and trust me, this is the LAST place you want to fight a mob like the Magma Cube! If you don't bring a Fire Resistance potion, you're asking for death here.

3 - Inside an Ocean Monument

This may sound like an odd choice, but I really do think the Ocean Monument is one of the most dangerous places in Minecraft. Not only are you absolutely surrounded with mobs that have a ranged laser attack, but you are also underwater. This severely limits your mobility and visibility needed to escape the horde of ranged attackers. In addition, the Elder Guardians inflict Mining Fatigue, making it impossible to mine through the walls to escape. Also, you are underwater which poses the obvious risk of drowning. A LOT of preparation is needed to survive in an Ocean Monument.

2 - Inside a Bastion

Bring totems, god apples, a wide array of potions, maxed out Netherite gear and probably still get your arse handed to you six ways from Sunday. The toughest structure in Minecraft is sheer brute force. Literally. Those Brutes, especially on Java, are EXTREMELY tough. They are really something to run from, rather than fight melee. If one manages to sneak up on you and corner you, you're almost certainly screwed if you don't have a god apple. The place is also CRAWLING with Piglins - which as I mentioned before, are REALLY tough in high numbers. Hoglins also become much more of a threat here, as they can so easily shove you off and into lava. Survival here needs insane preparation and combat skills, as well as highly strategic play to not get absolutely demolished.
(Note: Bastions are considerably easier on Bedrock than Java due to differences in combat mechanics and Brutes doing less damage, so on Bedrock I'd put this #3).

What could be more dangerous than a place with lava, big falls and literally everything there wanting you dead??

How about a place where one tiny mistake could mean you lose EVERYTHING.

1 - The Small End Islands (without an Elytra)

This is what I consider to be the most dangerous place in Minecraft. Ender Pearling across the all-swallowing void itself is a place even I avoid going at all costs. The Small End Islands consists of 99% void and 1% tiny tiny floating island just a mere few blocks in diameter. This place may not be crawling with hostile mobs or lava or a literal boss. In fact there's usually no mobs here at all. There is instead a much worse threat. And that is simply your lousy aim. If you miss with your ender pearl or have a bridge-building mishap, you will suffer the worst death possible in Minecraft, and there is absolutely nothing you can do. A fall into lava may be bad in the early game, but there are ways to prevent yourself dying should you end up in lava. However, no amount of potions, totems or enchantments will save you from a fall into the void. The void will gobble up ALL your maxed out Mending gear that you thought would be forever, and any totems you were carrying to stop yourself from an untimely death while trying to get your elytra. This is perhaps the only death in Minecraft that can REALLY spell the true downfall of a highly advanced player.

And that in itself is enough to blow any of the other entries on here right out of the water.

And there you have it, those are what I consider to be the most DANGEROUS places in Minecraft!
Even with all that said, the real world in 2021 is far more dangerous than anything I've listed here.
