Introduction

Hello all and welcome to my new Blog.

I am a die-hard Minecraft fan and have played the game since August 2012. At the time I jumped on the bandwagon, I was considered "late to the party", catching the tail end of the first generation of fans. Over the years, I have seen many generations of fans and developers, and I now realize that even though I missed the official release, I am a very late first-generation fan. I remember when Minecraft parodies on YouTube were big, the Yogscast were still big, adventure maps were big, and there was no Wither.

Just.

I started playing two weeks before they added the Wither to 1.4 snapshots. But I didn't play snapshots then, as you had to download them into your Java folder. There was no launcher back then. I had to play on Minecraft.net. Is that where you draw the line between gen 1 and gen 2?

In the 8 years I have played Minecraft, I have followed the updates very closely, always hopping onto the snapshots as soon as they dropped. The first snapshot I played was the first 1.5 snapshot, 13w01a. I was so hyped to see Nether Quartz added to the game, as I had noticed even in the few months I was a noob that the Nether needed some more content and ores. Too bad it would be the last new ore added to the game for SEVEN YEARS. Since then, I have always been hyped for the new snapshots and followed all the developers on Twitter, and later Reddit.

My Minecraft journey has definitely been full, with some high points, and low ones too (such as getting permabanned off the Minecraft forums because the admins didn't like me(?!))

Not even the Minecraft forums exist anymore.

Now that the covid situation is well and truly out of control, it looks like I won't be returning to my day job any time soon. So why not make a blog about something I am way too overly passionate about?

There is no doubt I have a lot of strong opinions about Minecraft and its development. This blog will just be my thoughts on the game and some glaring things I have noticed in my long haul of Minecraft fandom.

Posts will include: what are my favorite updates? Why do Mojang refuse to add sharks on grounds of animal cruelty in a game where the best food is meat? How do I feel about the fact they are now using splash texts to push real political agendas to tens of millions of kids? Am I mad that the Glow Squid beat the Iceologer? Is the Phantom the worst mob in Minecraft?

Lots of exciting posts coming up, stay tuned my single reader!
